DTF transfer print breathes new life into the textile industry

Welcome to the fascinating world of DTF transfer print. At DTF Team, we want to delve into this revolutionary print technology. While traditional methods, like screen printing or direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, have their merits, DTF print offers additional flexibility and a cost-effective solution.

DTF Transfer Print

Components of DTF transfer print

In Direct to Film (DTF) transfers, a few key elements come into play: a specialized DTF printer, film, specific inks (CYMK and white), adhesive granules, and a heat press. The latter is often already utilized in some traditional printing techniques.

The technology isn’t entirely new

What’s interesting are the individual components themselves. In this case, we’re talking about a printer that uses inkjet technology, specifically designed for DTG (Direct to Garment). While this technology can be costly for home use — given the high ink consumption and the expensive ink— it’s a different story for these specialized printers. Picture a massive industrial printer. The reason is simple: far more products than just textiles can be printed on. Additionally, oversized prints and flags are also feasible. However, a DTF printer always prints on film.

When is this technology used?

DTF transfer printing offers a wide range of applications. From personalizing clothing and accessories to producing custom textiles for businesses, DTF shines in delivering clear logos and high-resolution images. The print quality enhances the appeal of the garments, making DTF transfer print ideal for caps, t-shirts, bags, hoodies, and sportswear.

No pre-treatment required

One of the benefits of DTF transfer print’s high flexibility is that it can be used on a variety of materials, which traditional printing methods often struggle with. You might have noticed that most shops offer similar base materials. That’s because they rely on traditional print techniques. DTF can print on cotton, polyester, leather, and even silk, while ensuring long-lasting, high-quality results. Additionally, the need for ‘weeding’ is eliminated, simplifying the overall production process for us.

Economical for us, cost-effective for you

DTF transfer printing is not inherently cheaper than screen printing; it all depends on the volume. Lower quantities or individual prints are easier and more cost-effective to produce with DTF transfer print. For larger volumes, traditional methods might still be more suitable. However, there’s a catch: DTF prints are clearer, look better, and last longer. That’s why we lean towards using DTF transfer print over traditional screen-printing methods, even if larger volumes take a bit longer to produce.
